Introduction to Multiphonics - How to Play Two Notes Together on Your Double Ocarina
-
Introduction to Multiphonics is the perfect guide for advanced ocarina players who are looking to maximize the abilities of their double or triple ocarina. While the single-chambered ocarina is sometimes limited by its design, the double and triple ocarinas have the capacity to combine melody and harmony by producing two different notes at the same time. The ocarina, often considered a simple folk instrument, is shown in this book to be a complex musical tool capable of providing challenge and entertainment to any player.
This book begins with a brief explanation of multiphonics and a list of preliminary exercises to help the ocarina player grasp the physical technicalities of playing multiphonics. An additional section includes sample notes and multiphonic steps for well-known compositions such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” For each composition, the player begins by practicing the original melody before introducing multiphonics, allowing for a gradual but demanding exploration of this style of play.
